Collective Sounds of Happy Places is a Digital Workshop by Lark McIvor and Negar Ebrahimi and sponsored by the Festival of Creative Learning 2020. This workshop aimed to help participants explore their happy places in the lockdown put in place for the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. Ms. Ebrahimi is a Ph.D. Researcher at the Edinburgh School of Architecture and Landscape Architecture at the University of Edinburgh and she led participants through an exploration of their respective happy places. Ms. McIvor is a Ph.D. Researcher at the Reid School of Music at the University of Edinburgh and she guided participants through graphic notation practices and helped participants apply these practices to the sounds they experienced in their chosen spaces.
Following the workshop participant's scores were sent to a team of musicians to be recorded and a video editor to be organised into a virtual concert video.

Atzi Muramatsu - Violincello
Atzi Muramatsu is a multi-disciplinary composer living in Edinburgh. His works encompass music for concerts, dance, poetry, exhibited arts and films. His music features in three BAFTA winning films including a short film The Violinist, winner of BAFTA Scotland Best Composer New Talent Award 2016. He plays in Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra and leads a contemporary string quartet Lipsync for a Lullaby.

Emma Lloyd - Violin
Emma Lloyd is a violinist and violist specialising in the performance of experimental contemporary music and improvisation. She performs as a soloist and in small ensembles, working often with live electronics, and collaborating regularly with composers. In addition to the modern set-up, she plays a baroque violin and performs both baroque and contemporary music written specifically for this instrument.
As an improviser, Emma's performance tends to be quiet and intimate in nature, exploring the innate timbral qualities of the violin, and discovering some of the often hidden sounds that can be found with her unique combination of technique and tools.

Emma Roche - Flute

Emma Roche is a flute player from Cork who lives in Glasgow. She plays with the Irish Chamber Orchestra and appears regularly as a guest with orchestras and ensembles across Scotland. She is a founder member of Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra.
